Azetobacter chroococcum is a free-living nitrogen-fixing bacterium known to fix approximately 15?30 kg of nitrogen per hectare per year. In addition to enhancing soil fertility, it produces antifungal compounds that help suppress several plant pathogens. This beneficial microbe is also known to boost seed germination and enhance seedling vigor, contributing to a healthier and more uniform crop stand. Furthermore, it has been reported to assist in the biological control of nematode parasites that affect crop plants.
