Bacillus thuringiensis

Bacillus thuringiensis var. kurstaki (Bt) is a well-known microbial insecticide effective against a wide range of lepidopteran larvae (caterpillars). Its toxicity comes from a crystal protein toxin produced alongside the spore, which, when ingested by the larvae, disrupts their digestive system and leads to death. Bt offers targeted pest control while being safe for beneficial insects and the environment.
